Rev. Dr Barry O’Sullivan.

MA, PGCert. Bpsych, D.Couns, MBACP Father O’Sullivan is a priest based in Shrewsbury Diocese and was ordained in 1987

He is a leading proponent of Child Safeguarding in the Roman Catholic Church in England & Wales, as well as spending more than a decade as the Salford Diocese Child Protection Coordinator, he has been a member of the Bishops Conference of England & Wales Working Party for the Care and Rehabilitation of Sex Offenders, and the Catholic Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults National working party to develop a Safeguarding Programme for Clergy in England and Wales. He completed an MA in Counselling Psychology at Boston College USA (2001) He graduated from The University of Central Lancashire with a Postgraduate Certificate in Behavioral Forensic Psychology in 2010. He went on to complete a Doctorate in Counselling at The University of Manchester in 2015. He is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. He has attended Safeguarding Conferences in the UK and Internationally and is a member of the United Kingdom’s Governments Child Exploitation and Online Protection Academy. He is currently a member of the Boundary Breaking Project at the Centre for Catholics Studies of Durham University. In 2018. Which published its findings “The Cross of the Moment.” in April 2024. In 2018 Gracewing published his book, “The Burden of Betrayal: Non-offending Priests and the Clergy Sexual Abuse Crisis.” He was temporarily seconded to work as a Safeguarding Consultant, promoting good Safeguarding Practice in the
Developing World from 2020 – 2025. On 1st September 2025 he was appointed as Parish Administrator of SacredHeart, Whaley Bridge & St Paul’s, Poynton.
